The Build a Better Grinnell 2030 Visioning Project (BABG) has wrapped up its Phase 2 community needs prioritization survey, which asked people who live, work or depend on resources in Grinnell to rank their top seven priorities from a list of 46. The project is now transitioning to Phase 3, which will focus on developing a deeper understanding of these top seven issues. This involves exploring the prioritized issues in more detail and asking the community to begin identifying possible solutions. The following, and final stage of the project will organize planning groups around each prioritized issue to develop specific action plans taking into account the research findings. The project invites everyone to learn more about the results and priorities from the most recent survey, and is seeking continued participation in the next stage.
Top Issues
        Improve Quality of Drinking Water
       More Variety of Restaurants
       Improve K-12 Buildings and Infrastructure
Improve or Expand Mental Health Care Services
       Improve Roads & Road Maintenance
       Reduce Racism
       Higher Wages, or Lower Prices
The Survey Data
The first BABG survey asked a series of open-ended questions about Grinnell's strengths and needs. This led to the list of 46 issues that appeared on the most recent survey. Individuals were then asked to rank their top seven issues, as well as provide demographic information covering income, race & ethnicity, living situation, commuter status, gender identity, household size, and age. In total, 1270 people took the recent prioritization survey. The top seven needs identified appear below. While only these top issues will move forward into the next research phase, all the data from the project are publicly available for viewing and use on the website.
