Overland Property Group is excited to announce that the Iowa Finance Authority has extended an award to The Reserves at South Lake that will make our proposed housing development in Grinnell a reality. Utilizing private financing alongside proceeds from the sale of housing tax credits to investors, this community will be maintained as affordable workforce housing for a minimum of 30 years.
Two, three-story residential buildings consisting of 48 units will include both affordable and market-rate apartments, these units will accompany a clubhouse and onsite leasing office.
Other onsite amenities for residents to enjoy include, but are not limited to, a library, fitness center, playground, and bike racks. In-unit amenities like energy star appliances including washing machines, dryers, knotty alder cabinets, LVP Hardwood flooring and ample storage, make the community a place its future residents will be proud to call home.
The Reserves at South Lake is intended to break ground in the fall of 2022 and will be ready to welcome residents in late 2023.
“Overland Property Group is excited to be investing in and joining the City of Grinnell with the development of the Reserves at South Lake.” noted Matt Gillam, Managing Partner – Overland Property Group, LLC. “We look forward to getting this development moving forward and welcoming residents to the property in late 2023.”
The Reserves at South Lake will be Overland Property Group’s sixth development in Iowa, joining existing developments in Pella, Storm Lake, Washington and Oskaloosa.
Established in 2002, Overland Property Group is led by Managing Partners Matt Gillam and Pat Beatty. Together, they have overseen the development of 70-plus communities with cumulative investments of more than $750M. Ryan Zent, Vice President of Development, and Austin Kack, Development Associate, will be leading the development efforts on behalf of Overland Property Group.

Brooklyn Opera House to hold auditions for ‘Blithe Spirt’

8/23/2022

Picture
The Brooklyn Opera House will be hosting a fall community theatre production of “Blithe Spirit” from Oct. 28 - 30.
Written by Noel Coward, this comedy hit focuses on novelist Charles Condomine, who is remarried, but haunted by the ghost of his late first wife, Elvira. Charles’ current wife, Ruth, is accidentally killed, passes over and joins Elvira, and the two blithe spirits haunt Charles into perpetuity.
Set in Kent, England during the 1940s, this production will require a cast of five females and two males.
“This is a great show for women,” said Deborah Kennedy, co-director of this upcoming production. “Often in theatre, the plot of the play is centered around male characters, so I like that we can feature and celebrate women with this show that will hopefully make people laugh.”
Auditions for this performance will be held at the opera house on Thursday, Aug. 25 at 7 p.m. No prep is necessary, and actors will read from the script.
Please visit www.brooklynoperahouse.com for more information.

Jon Hubbert, state conservationist for the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA), Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) in Iowa, is the guest speaker at the 2022 Grinnell Ag Appreciation Day on Thursday, Aug. 25.
Hubbert joined Iowa NRCS in October 2010 and served as an assistant state conservationist for programs, management and strategy and operations prior to being selected as the state conservationist, in October 2020.
Prior to his move to Iowa, Hubbert served as the Assistant State Conservationist for Field Operations in Northeastern Illinois for 6 years and served as a District Conservationist in central Illinois for 17 years.
Hubbert earned a Bachelor of Science Degree from Western Illinois University. His major field of study was agricultural engineering mechanization. His farming background includes grain, livestock, and forage production in central Illinois, where his family still farms.
As a member of the Iowa NRCS Leadership team, Hubbert led efforts to improve the quality and efficiency of NRCS services. These efforts have improved coordination within the Iowa Conservation Partnership and led to an increase of voluntary, incentive-based conservation on private lands. He has also completed many leadership assignments at the state and national level, including service as acting state conservationist in Iowa in 2018 and as the acting state conservationist in Virginia in 2020.
Outside of work, Hubbert enjoys spending time with his family and friends and enjoys spending time in nature while hiking, kayaking, hunting, and fishing.
