Written by Noel Coward, this comedy hit focuses on novelist Charles Condomine, who is remarried, but haunted by the ghost of his late first wife, Elvira. Charles’ current wife, Ruth, is accidentally killed, passes over and joins Elvira, and the two blithe spirits haunt Charles into perpetuity. Set in Kent, England during the 1940s, this production will require a cast of five females and two males. “This is a great show for women,” said Deborah Kennedy, co-director of this upcoming production. “Often in theatre, the plot of the play is centered around male characters, so I like that we can feature and celebrate women with this show that will hopefully make people laugh.” Auditions for this performance will be held at the opera house on Thursday, Aug. 25 at 7 p.m. No prep is necessary, and actors will read from the script. Please visit www.brooklynoperahouse.com for more information. Jon Hubbert, state conservationist for the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA), Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) in Iowa, is the guest speaker at the 2022 Grinnell Ag Appreciation Day on Thursday, Aug. 25. Hubbert joined Iowa NRCS in October 2010 and served as an assistant state conservationist for programs, management and strategy and operations prior to being selected as the state conservationist, in October 2020. Prior to his move to Iowa, Hubbert served as the Assistant State Conservationist for Field Operations in Northeastern Illinois for 6 years and served as a District Conservationist in central Illinois for 17 years. Hubbert earned a Bachelor of Science Degree from Western Illinois University. His major field of study was agricultural engineering mechanization. His farming background includes grain, livestock, and forage production in central Illinois, where his family still farms. As a member of the Iowa NRCS Leadership team, Hubbert led efforts to improve the quality and efficiency of NRCS services. These efforts have improved coordination within the Iowa Conservation Partnership and led to an increase of voluntary, incentive-based conservation on private lands. He has also completed many leadership assignments at the state and national level, including service as acting state conservationist in Iowa in 2018 and as the acting state conservationist in Virginia in 2020. Outside of work, Hubbert enjoys spending time with his family and friends and enjoys spending time in nature while hiking, kayaking, hunting, and fishing. |
