The Brooklyn community welcomed German foreign exchange student, Nina Beier, by hoisting a German flag at the Avenue of Flags late last month. Nina, who hails from a suburb of Berlin, is spending the 2022-23 school year at BGM.
“She plans to try as many new experiences as she can while here,” said Franci McClenathan, the new community representative for AYUSA, an exchange program based in San Francisco. “Her father was also an exchange student when he was in high school.”
Nina plans to take part in the BGM cheerleading squad cheering on the sports teams.
Her host family is Lacey, Karlee and Brock Bellenger.
The Ruritans of Brooklyn purchased the German flag for Nina to hoist at the Avenue of Flags.
“The flag will fly throughout her stay in Brooklyn and she will get to take it home with her when she returns home next spring,” McClenathan said.
