His traditionally published books Near Death/Near Life, Free Fire Zone, Winterset, Heart Songs, and House de Gracie have won honors from the Eric Hoffer Awards, Global Ebook Awards, American Fiction Awards, Reviewers Choice Awards, and Military Writers Society of America Awards. Maulsby holds memberships in the Science Fiction & Fantasy Writers of America, the Science Fiction & Fantasy Poetry Association, The Military Writers Society of America, and is a past president of the Iowa Poetry Association.
