Robert "Bob" Sutfin - June 20, 1934 - September 30, 2021

Bob Sutfin, 87 of Montezuma passed away, Thursday, September 30, 2021 at his home in Montezuma surrounded by his family under hospice care. Funeral services will begin at 10:30 am Thursday, October 7, 2021 at the Community Hope Church in Montezuma. Visitation will begin after noon on Wednesday, October 6, 2021 at the Holland-Coble Funeral Home in Montezuma with the family present from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm. Holland-Coble Funeral Home of Montezuma is in charge of arrangements.
Robert Murray Sutfin was born the son of Robert Emmett and Lois (Bauman) Sutfin on June 20, 1934  in Chicago, IL. His mother died at a young age and Bob lived with relatives in the Malcom area.  He  graduated from Malcom High School in 1952 as the class President. He then attended Central College for a short time. Bob enlisted in the United States Marine Corp. in 1953 in Des Moines, Iowa. He proudly served his country for three years in the Korean War before he was honorably discharged in 1956. On December 1, 1956, Bob was united in marriage to Anita Riddle in Chicago, IL. To this union seven children were born, Kathy, Bob, Debbie, Daniel, Julie, Sean and Bill.  Bob started out as an Illinois State Trooper from 1957 to 1961 before purchasing the Standard Station in Arlington Heights, IL and then sold All State Insurance.  In 1973, they purchased a farm near Malcom raising hogs and cattle.  Bob would drive from Chicago to the farm on weekends for a year before living full-time on the farm.  He then purchased Montgomery Ward and Apple Craft in Grinnell before starting Sutfin Real Estate in Montezuma.  He also owned Sutfin Furniture selling furniture,  appliances,  and owning the Living Green Flower Shop  and  Watson Printing.  Bob was also busy with rental property and owned four farms.  He served as  a County Supervisor for eight years, was a member of the VFW serving as Commander from 1990 to 1991, a member of the Blakely Stevens American Legion Post 169,  and St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Grinnell.  Family was very important to Bob and Anita was his number one.  They enjoyed Sunday family time and also the Chicago Bears and Cubs.  While living in Chicago, Bob always attended the St. Patty’s Day parade.  He and Anita loved dancing and Bob was an avid reader.
Bob is survived by his wife, Anita, of Montezuma; his children, Kathy (Dave) Grier, Montezuma, Bob (Rochell) Sutfin, Montezuma, Debbie (Don) Taylor, Malcom, Daniel (Brenda) Sutfin, Deep River, Julie (Rex) Cheney, Deep River, Sean (Bambi) Sutfin, Deep River, and William (Tammy) Sutfin, Montezuma; 19 grandchildren, 38 great grandchildren; his brother, Paul Sutfin, IL.; sisters, Helen White, IL., Kathie (John) Fiorito, FL, Terrie Chartrand, IL., and Marie Hagarty, IL.; and sister-in-law, Betty Madsen; other relatives and many friends.
He is preceded in death by his brothers-in-law, Al White, Harry Chartrand and Lawrence Hagarty; his sisters, Carol (Gordon) Early and Barb (Jim) Smith.
