Members of the Montezuma American Legion Post 169, its Auxiliary, family and friends, spent Saturday afternoon, Dec. 19 placing 350 wreathes on veterans monuments and graves as part of the Wreaths Across America Program.
The purpose of the wreaths program is to:
     • Remember the fallen
     • Honor those who served and their families
     • Teach our children the value of freedom
This is the second year that the Montezuma American Legion has taken part in the Wreaths Across America Program. The veterans and their guests placed wreathes on the various monuments around the Montezuma Square before adjourning to the city cemeteries (Jackson Township and the Masonic IOOF Cemetery) to decorate veterans’ graves and place a wreath on the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, as pictured.
