The Montezuma School Board approved two renovations projects at its July 10 meeting. They include replacing all the windows in the original building over the next three years. The second project includes major renovations to the south gym/auditorium.
Windows project - The board noted that the current windows leak when it rains and replacing the windows should prevent damage from occurring to the interior of the school building. Plans are to replace all of the windows in the original part of the building over the next three years. When the windows are all replaced, then measures such as tuckpointing will be taken to make sure everything is sealed properly. The first phase of the window project should be completed before school starts.
South Gym/Auditorium project -The second project involves the renovation of the south gym/auditorium. This area will no longer be used for gymnasium activities. Improvements include a new rigging system, new stage curtains installed and new general lighting. A new audio system is also planned.
An extension will be constructedfrom the stage onto the current gym floor, which will almost double the size of the stage. There will also be an addition to the current control room in the top and back of the seating area. The entire space will be painted and the floor will be refinished. The project is expected to be completed by early October.
