Freezing subzero cold, wind and nearly 20-inches of snow didn’t stop Republican voters from showing up and giving their overwhelming support to former President Donald Trump in the 2024 Iowa Caucuses on Monday, Jan. 15.
Trump took 98 of the 99 Iowa counties, winning by as much as 60 plus percent in more than one-third of Iowa counties and even 70 and more percent in some counties including Keokuk (74.6); Jackson (72.0); Humboldt (70.7); Appanoose (71.9); Louisa (70.6); Wapello (71.6); and Van Buren (71.3).
His only loss was to Presidential candidate Nikki Haley in Johnson County and only by one vote. Haley garnered 1,271 votes to Trump’s 1,270 votes in the home of the Hawkeyes.
Overall, Trump finished with 56,260 votes or 51 percent of all votes cast across Iowa. Ron DeSantis finished Iowa in second place with 23,420 votes or 21.2 percent overall. Haley garnered 19.1 percent of the Iowa vote with 21,085 votes cast for the former governor of South Carolina. Vivek Ramaswamy finished with 8,449 votes or 7.7 percent overall. Ryan Binkley picked up 774 votes across Iowa or 7.7 percent. Asa Hutchinson, the former governor of Arkansas, had 191 votes cast in his favor or 0.2 percent overall.
In Poweshiek County, Trump took 51.8 percent of the vote with 293 ballots cast. DeSantis finished in second with 132 votes or 23.4 percent of ballots cast. Haley earned 87 votes or 15.4 percent in the county. Ramaswamy picked up 46 votes for 8.1 percent while Binkley had five votes for 0.9 percent. Hutchinson, took one vote in the county for 0.2 percent.
Since the Iowa Caucuses, DeSantis, Ramaswamy and Hutchinson have all dropped out of the race. Binkley and Haley remain in the Presidential race and vow to keep fighting.
