The 2019 Poweshiek County 4-H/FFA Fair starts Thursday

     Dogs, poultry, horses, sheep, goats, cattle, rabbits and pigs will headline the 2019 Poweshiek County
​4-H/FFA Fair. Joining in will be queens, ice cream, watermelon, good food, cookout contest, kiddie tractor pull, celebrity livestock show, tall corn contest, car show, rock wall, dunk tank, barnyard games, pony rides, photo booth, scavenger hunt, family movie, fashion show, hall of fame, music, talent show, art on the patio, skill-a-thon, animal costume contest and much more.
     You don’t want to miss all the fun at this year’s fair, which gets underway on Thursday, July 18 and continues through Monday, July 22 at the fairgrounds in Grinnell. The theme of this year’s fair is “Barn in the USA.” Following are a list of planned activities:
 
Thursday, July 18
7:45 a.m. Flag Raising Ceremony
8 a.m. 4-H/FFA Dog Agility Show – 30 minutes following Agility will be obedience classes in the Show Ring
Exhibit Building Opens
10 a.m. – Noon Heritage Park Country School & Lower Blue Point Church Open
1 p.m. 4-H/FFA Poultry Show – Tent followed by Clover Kids Poultry Show
5 p.m. Poweshiek County Fair Queen Pageant – (Moved to the Exhibit Hall due to the heat)
Intermission- Crowing of Senior King & Queen and Little Miss Crowning
7:30 p.m. 4-H Fashion Show, Community Awards & Hall of Fame Announcement
8 p.m. Bill Riley Talent Show – Show Ring
Exhibit Building Closes
 
Friday, July 19
8 a.m. 4-H/FFA Horse Show – Halter 1⁄2 Hour Following Halter Classes – Horse Performance
8 a.m. Exhibit Building Opens
10 a.m. – Livestock Judging Contest & Skill–A-Thon
10 a.m. – 2 p.m. Heritage Park Country School & Lower Blue Point Church Open 
10:30 a.m. Art On The Patio – Tilly Woodward
1 – 3 p.m. Library at the Fair On The Patio 
5 p.m. Animal Costume Contest – Show Ring 
5 – 7 p.m. Key Cooperative Sponsored Dinner 
6 p.m. Ice Cream Sundae Fund Raiser 
6:30 p.m. Kiddie Tractor Pull Registration
7 p.m. Kiddie Tractor Pull
8 p.m. Exhibit Building Closes
8:30 p.m. Celebrity Livestock Show – Show Ring 
 
Saturday, July 20
8 a.m. 4-H/FFA Sheep Show followed by Clover Kids Bottle Lamb/Goats followed by 4-H/FFA Meat & Dairy Goat Show 
Exhibit Building Opens
1 p.m. Farm Bureau Watermelon Feed
3 p.m. – 5 p.m. – Scavenger Hunt – 4-H County Council 
5 p.m. Cook-Out Contest – Open to the Public 
4-H/FFA Horse Show – Game Classes 
6 p.m. Barnyard Games 
8 p.m. Exhibit Building Closes
9:30 p.m./Dusk Outside Family Movie
 
Sunday, July 21
8 a.m. 4-H/FFA Beef Show 1⁄2 hour following beef show 4H/FFA bottle Calf Show followed by Clover Kids Bottle Calf Show 
Exhibit Building Opens
1 p.m. – 4-H/FFA Cavy Show – Show Ring followed by Clover Kids Cavy Show 
2 p.m. – 4-H/FFA Rabbit Show followed by Clover Kids Rabbit show – Show Ring 
7 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. Pool Party @ Grinnell Aquatic Center for 4-H/FFA members
7 p.m. Jonathan Shinkle and Stringtown RD will be performing county gospel and rock music. The group will also be impersonating some of your favorite icons.
6 p.m. Exhibit Building Closes
 
Monday, July 22
8 a.m. 4-H/FFA Swine Show, Following Swine Show is the Piglet Show
Exhibit Building Opens
5:15 p.m. Herdsmanship & Premier Exhibitor Awards Presented
5:30 p.m. Project Sale (Show Ring) Clerk: McIlrath Auctioneering. Sale Order: Non Livestock Projects, Swine, Cavy, Sheep, Rabbits, Poultry, Bottle Calf, Beef & Goats
