A new custom woodworking business has opened its doors in rural Montezuma and the public is invited to come check out the company’s offerings at a holiday launch on Saturday, Dec. 16.
Jude Teumer, owner of St. Joseph’s Apprentice, will have some of his toys, Christmas decorations and furniture on display at English Valley Bed & Breakfast at 4459 135th St. in Montezuma from 12 – 5 p.m. on that day.
“It’s an open house for what I want to build,” said Teumer.
Teumer has been working with wood for about eight years and helped build the family log cabin at Lake Silverardo.
His interest in woodworking grew from there to include toys and furniture.
“I like working with my hands,” he said. “I really enjoy making people happy by building them something they really love.”
The woodworking business name, St. Joseph’s Apprentice, mirrors two things that are important to Teumer. First, being a Catholic, Teumer has an admiration of St. Joseph, the husband of Mary, the mother of Jesus. And the apprentice part mirrors his job working with his dad, owner of Liberty Line Builders. The business installs electrical lines.
“I like the idea of apprentice,” he said. “It is someone who identifies themselves to someone they want to be, who they look up to.”
Teumer is looking forward to the holiday launch and showcasing his work. He’s also taking orders for custom woodwork.
“If you bring me an idea, I will create it,” he said.
Teumer and his wife, Shelby, live in rural Montezuma and have a daughter, Lily, who is five months old.
Teumer can be reached at 563-929-0448.
