Parker Montezuma’s Pink Truffle Bake Shop, 100 S. 3rd St., specializes in sweet treats that include homemade cupcakes, cookies and marshmallows. The business opened its doors on Friday, March 5. Owner Denise Thompson, who retired as a cook at Montezuma Community Schools in December, following a 21-year career, decided to open the business to give herself something to do. “I like structure,” she said. “I like a routine, so I decided to find some little thing to do.” With a cooking background, Thompson said cupcakes were a perfect fit. “Nobody had cupcakes in town and I wanted to do pretty things,” said Thompson. She put out a request on Facebook looking for a store front that she could rent to operate her business. Raenelle Bryan, owner of Bryan Realty, Inc. in Montezuma, reached out to Thompson and said she could set up shop in her lobby. “She has been very good to me,” Thompson said. “She is always willing to help me out with whatever I need.” The Pink Truffle Bake Shop is currently open on Fridays only from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. or until all goodies have been sold. Thompson bakes 22 dozen cupcakes each week. These include what she calls the classics – red velvet, confetti, vanilla, and chocolate cupcakes. She also offers three special cupcake varieties, which changes weekly. She also has cookies and homemade marshmallows for sale. Everything is brought to the shop on Thursday evening, thanks to the help of Thompson’s husband, Steve, and set up and ready to go for Friday morning. Cupcakes are $2.50 each, two for $5 or four for $10. You can purchase a half dozen for $14 or a dozen for $28. She is taking orders, but customers must order at least a dozen cupcakes. Thompson said she has been selling out most weeks, saying at first she thought she would make cupcakes to stay busy and now, the business has taken on a life of its own. “I enjoy the people who come in,” Thompson said. “I already have my regulars. The community has been very supportive of my little humble corner.” Thompson can be reached at the Pink Truffle through Facebook at: Pink Truffle Bake Shop or by email at: [email protected].
