If you’ve driven past Diamond Lake west of Montezuma lately, you may have noticed new signs at both the east and south entrances to the park.
Poweshiek County Conservation Director Mark Vavroch said the brick work was completed in mid-December with the signs being installed in mid-January.
Bushong Construction of Montezuma designed the brick work for the signs and Hansen Construction of Victor did the brick work. The signs were built by DeJong Manufacturing of New Sharon.
The sign at the south entrance (Foster Center) was purchased three years ago with the brick work being designed around it. The east entrance (Highway 63) brick work and signage is new.
Vavroch said the sign at the east entrance was original to the lake and built in the late 60s or early 70s.     The south entrance sign was constructed about 25 years ago and the brick work had deteriorated, making it unsafe.
Cost of the project was around $7,000 for each sign with some of the funding donated for the project.
“It is one of those things that we (conservation board) had been talking about for several years,” noted Vavroch.
