In addition to SICL honors, Shearer, who helped lead the Braves to a 25-3 record, was one of five players named to the Class 1A All-Tournament team following the boys’ basketball championship at Wells Fargo Arena.
Joining him are Angelo Winkel, Bishop Garrigan; Kiks Rosengarten, Wapsie Valley; John Joyce, Bishop Garrigan; and Gunner Meyer, Wapsie Valley.
In addition, the 5-10 Shearer was named to the 2019-20 Cedar Rapids Gazette all-area boys’ basketball team.
“He’s so quick and a tremendous distributor and shooter,” noted the Gazette staff. “The Division II Truman State commit helped the Braves to a third-place finish at the state tournament and was named to the Class 1A all-tournament team. He averaged 25.2 points per game, shooting 61 percent from the field, a pretty amazing number for a guard. He also finished with 142 assists, an average of five per game.”
Shearer has also been named to the Iowa Print Sports Writers’ Association Class 1A first team. The IPSWA, which was formed in February 2018, replaced the Iowa Newspaper Association all-state awards after that organization’s board voted to discontinue its all-state awards program that year.
Joining Shearer on first team is JD Stout of Keota. BGM’s Noah Beck was named to second team by the IPSWA.
“I was very honored when it came out that I had won,” said Shearer of his honors. “I think the season was fun and, as a group, we were all very proud of how the season went and how it ended.”
