Montezuma’s Maddy McKeag has a bright future ahead.
The 2020 Montezuma High School graduate is the recipient of the Paul Burgett Scholarship, which provides a full ride to Grinnell College.
“I look forward to completely diving into everything Grinnell has to offer,” she said.
Maddy plans to double major in political science and economics at Grinnell. Her future sights are set on a law degree from either Drake University or the University of Iowa.
“I have not fully locked myself into those plans yet, as I would like to explore all my options so I can find the best career path for me,” said Maddy.
At Montezuma, Maddy was involved in many sports activities including volleyball, basketball and track for four years and three years playing softball.
She was also active in the FFA program, as well as speech and drama, student council, national honor society and musicals.
During her freshman year, Maddy was on the color guard squad who received second place at the state level. Other prep highlights include:
State track for the 4x400 meter relay; State softball where she played second base and received All-Conference Honorable Mention
State basketball; State track for the 4x400 meter relay; Helped lead the Montezuma FFA Ag Sales Team to a state championship while being named individual champion
State volleyball; State basketball; State track for the 8x800 meter relay, finishing third in the state in Class 1A; Inducted into the Montezuma Chapter of National Honor Society; Helped lead the FFA Farm Business Management team to a state championship and third place finish as a team at the national level.

In addition, Maddy earned 13 varsity letter and was on the All-Conference Academic team in every sport in every season during her prep career. She was also on the A honor roll at Montezuma for all eight semesters throughout high school.
Maddy is the daughter of Mike McKeag and Angie Becker.
