The Montezuma Auditorium, formerly the south gym, has received numerous updates just in time for the fall musical.
The first photo shows a wide-angle view of the extended and widened stage in the auditorium. Visible above the stage is some of the all-new theatrical and general lighting. There is also a new sound system.
Bushong Construction of Montezuma began work in mid-July on the $620,000 auditorium renovation and finished, except for some details, just in time for the fall musical – with some preparations for it shown.
Many of the stage improvements are behind the scenes including ceiling reinforcements, new curtains and a variety of new rigging options according to School Superintendent Dave Hoeger. He noted that the former gym floor will be refinished in the near future.
The second photo shows an expanded control center, which is one of the enhancements given to the school auditorium in the nearly completed renovation. The small window in the background on the right is the original sound and lighting control room and the structure with the larger window on the left being the addition. All new theatrical and general lighting and a new sound system have been installed.
Persons familiar with the former south gym will note a change at the bottom of the bleacher seating, with most of the former railing removed and floor-level seats added. Yet to be installed is a vertical railing system for the steps. The gym floor will be refinished at a later date.
