Montezuma HS Varsity Cheer finishes fifth at state competition

    The Montezuma High School Varsity Cheer Squad competed at the 2023 Iowa State Cheerleading Championships on Saturday, Nov. 4, finishing fifth in Class 1A.
        The competition was held at the Jacobson Exhibit Center on the Iowa State Fairgrounds. 
        Montezuma sent 16 members to the competition with 12 competiting.
       “Because we were in Class 1A, this only allowed us to have 12 girls on the floor,” said cheer coach Vanessa Hinton.
       Hinton said the team was so much fun to work with and that they have accomplished so much from a year ago.
       “We had a very large group who were involved in three or more activities during this time, but they always did their best to make it work and be at practice so that we could put together an amazing routine.”
        Hinton add that the choreographer was amazed by the constant improvement this team is making and already can’t wait to put together the routine for next year.
        “I am so proud of this team and everything they have accomplished and cannot wait to see where they go in the years to come,” said Hinton.”
