The Montezuma Cross Country team competed at the Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont Invite on Tuesday, Sept. 24. With all four teams participating with high school and junior high, it made for an exciting night.
The junior high girls competed first in a competitive race and while no runners earned top 10 finishes, both Ellen Cook and Alivia Cline set the two new fastest times recorded by a Montezuma runner on the course. On the boys side, Carter McKee placed 6th, Jack Erselius 8th, and both boys also set new course records in the 1.5 mile distance.
The high school girls followed up their first varsity meet win in 30 years with a second celebration on Tuesday, winning the meet by 24 points over Albia. Elise Boulton finished as runner-up, Madison Johannes placed 6th, and Mia Boulton placed 9th. The Bravettes were exceptionally strong as each runner finished with a new fastest time on the season, with career best times for Johannes, Mia Boulton, Carmen Klos, Haley Van Der Hart, Alyssa Cline, Katie Probasco, and Sadie De Jong.
The high school boys added to the fast times as each of the four: Brydon Henning, Brayden Stockman, Zach Templeton, and Colton Benson also ran their fastest times of the season.
The Montezuma Cross Country team competed on Thursday, Sept. 26 at Moravia with high school races.    Look for a follow up soon.
