The Montezuma High School Cross Country teams competed at the Williamsburg Invitational on Tuesday, Sept. 3. Competing in a mixed field with some larger schools, the Bravettes held their own, finishing 5th place and a few points shy of 4th place Newton.
The Bravettes were led by junior Elise Boulton, who placed 10th with a 21:51. Freshmen Madison Johannes and Mia Boulton finished their first high school 5K races and set quick standards to beat as the season goes on. Notable performances across the board were highlighted by sophomore Rebeka Teumer and junior Alyssa Cline, who both posted career personal best times by approximately a minute and a half over all races last year. Freshman Sadie De Jong and junior Katie Probasco finished their first races as well.
On the high school boys side, three high school boys, including two newcomers to the sport, finished the meet. Junior Brydon Henning finished his first race with a time of 19:46, a 6:22 average mile pace over the 3.1 miles, and senior Zach Templeton finished a very strong race as well.
The Montezuma Cross Country teams, both high school and junior high, will compete Tuesday, Sept. 10, at Grinnell. The meet is held at Ahrens Park.
