Montezuma Bravettes finish strong in home volleyball opener

           ​The Montezuma Bravettes opened their home volleyball schedule on Tuesday, Sept. 3, going 2-1 with victories over GMG, Garwin and HLV. The team’s lone loss came at the hand of 2A Williamsburg. 
          Against Williamsburg, Montezuma played two sets, finishing 13-21 and 4-21. Ash Krousie had 18 digs and 14 attack attempts for the Bravettes. Maddy McKeag finished with 17 digs. Shanae Wetering finished with 11 attack attempts. Katie Reynolds and Waverly Roorda each had 5 serves and 1 ace in serving action. 
          Against GMG, Garwin, the Bravettes played two sets and garnered two wins, 21-13 and 21-7. Krousie had 6 digs and 10 attack attempts while McKeag finished with 8 digs. Shelby Conger had 7 digs and 2 attack attempts. Conger finished with 10 serves and 4 aces. McKeag had 9 serves and one ace while Korrinn Kehoe had 6 serves and 3 aces.
           Against SICL foe, HLV, the Bravettes lost the first set, 12-21, before wrapping up the night with two wins over the Warriors, 21-6 and 20-18 in the third set.
          Conger finished with 15 serves and Krousie had 9 serves and 3 aces. McKeag had 24 digs while Conger had 22 digs and 11 attack attempts. Wetering had 13 attack attempts and Krousie finished with 30 attack attempts and 17 digs.
          The Bravettes have a 6-5 overall record. They traveled to North Tama on Saturday, Sept. 7, finishing with loses to West Central and North Tama and beating BGM. A game summary will follow once the stats are made available.
           Next up for the Bravettes is a trip to Keota to take on the Lady Eagles on Thursday, Sept. 12.
