Montezuma Senior Shateah Wetering and Junior Elise Boulton along with BGM’s Rylie VanErsvelde, a senior for the Lady Bears, were among a host of South Iowa Cedar League players who received Class 1A First Team All-Conference honors.
BGM’s Rachel Hawkins, a senior for the Lady Bears, earned SICL Second Team All-Conference honors while Montezuma’s Dylan Holland, a junior for the Bravettes, also received Second Team SICL honors.
Honorable mention honors went to Seniors, Maddy McKeag and Shelby Conger, both Montezuma, and Isabelle Austin, a junior, and Rachel Weiss, a senior, both with BGM.

Other Honors

In addition, Wetering, who helped lead the Bravettes to a 23-2 record and third trip to state, was also recognized by the Iowa Print Writers Association (IPSWA) with Class 1A first team honors. The IPSWA, which was formed in February 2018, replaced the Iowa Newspaper Association all-state awards after that organization’s board voted to discontinue its all-state awards program that year.
Others recognized by the IPSWA were Kassadi Steel, North Mahaska and Mollory Loftus, Lynnville-Sully, who both received second team honors. Megan Stuhr, Sigourney, was named to the third team by the IPSWA.
The Iowa Girls Coaches Association (IGCA) has named Wetering and Boulton to the Class 1A All District team for the Southeast District. Also named to the all district team were Jade Hay and Kassi Steel, North Mahaska, and Megan Stuhr, Sigourney.
Wetering was also named to the IGCA All State First Team along with Kassidi Steel, North Mahaksa. Mollory Loftus, Lynnville-Sully, and Megan Stuhr, Sigourney, both received third team all state honors as awarded by the IGCA.
The Iowa Basketball Coaches Association has honored Bravettes Coach Janel Burgess as the Class 1A, District 5 Coach of the Year. Shateah Wetering and Elise Boulton, both Montezuma, have been named to the Class 1A, Region 5 Team.
“No matter the outcome at state this year, I feel as though we definitely had a successful season,” said Shateah Wetering of Montezuma. “State is always a great experience and I am so thankful I was given the opportunity to be able to play the game I love. It was an amazing four years filled with so many memories with such special girls. I'm very sad it's over, but once again thankful that I will be able to play at the next level at the University of Iowa. And one last shoutout to the great community we have, everyone really made it special for us seniors.”
