Montezuma, BGM boys’ among players named to SICL all-conference teams

​   Several area boys’ basketball players received all-conference honors following the 2019-20 basketball season.
   South Iowa Cedar League Class 1A first team All-Conference honors went to Juniors Trey Shearer and Cole Watts, both Montezuma, and Senior Noah Beck, BGM.
   Second team All-Conference honors went to Sophomore Eddie Burgess, Montezuma.
   Receiving Honorable Mention All-Conference honors were Freshman Masin Shearer and Senior Brayden Arendt, both Montezuma.
   The league’s Golden Award went to Junior Grant Hall, BGM. This honor is given to a player who the coaches felt would have been an honoree, but was unable to play most of the season due to an injury.

Iowa Basketball Coaches Association Honors
   The Iowa Basketball Coaches Association has named Braves Coach Derrick Dengler the Class 1A, Sub-state 5 Coach of the Year. Trey Shearer and Cole Watts, both Montezuma, and BGM’s Noah Beck, were named to Class 1A, Sub-state 5 Team.
   “It’s an honor to be selected as Coach of the Year,” said Braves Coach Derrick Dengler. “Very fortunate to coach a great group of young men who make this job easier then it can be. I think it’s just another award that reflects our team’s success more then anything.”
