JV Girls have impressive 15-0 season

The Montezuma Bravettes JV girls basketball team finished out an unbeaten season with a win over Williamsburg on Thursday night, Feb. 6. In a closely-contested game which saw several new defensive looks for us from the Raiders, the Bravettes got control on the offensive boards, then some sparks from 3-point range carried the team to a 41-27 victory. The Bravettes led 15-7 after one quarter, 26-15 at halftime and 36-23 through three periods. Guard Madison Johannes led scoring with 15 points with post player Kallie Robison contributing 14 points and 13 rebounds. Madison got her 15 on six-for-eight shooting, including sinking three-of-four from three-point range. Kierstyn Price scored five points and Alyssa Cline had four assists. The Bravettes shot .372 from the field and made five three-point baskets. Williamsburg shot .273 from the field. Montezuma had a 31-19 lead in rebounds, and cleared 11 of them from the offensive glass. The Bravettes finished the year 15-0, but the true success was found in the individual growth from player to player over the season.

Bravettes JV improve to 13-0 with 54-17 win over North Mahaska
The Montezuma Bravettes JV team played excellent team basketball on Monday night, Jan. 27, in New Sharon. The Bravettes defensive pressure forced a handful of turnovers while good ball movement offensively led to efficient shot selection. The first game of the season found the Bravettes as winners of a lower-scoring match where shots were not falling, but the tide was turned on Monday. The Bravettes came away as winners, 54-17, and move to 13-0 on the season. Madison Johannes led the Bravettes with 14 points while Alyssa Cline added 12.
 
North Mahaska falls to the Bravettes JV, who improved to 12-0 on the season
The Montezuma Bravettes JV team moved to 12-0 on the season with a win over North Mahaska on Thursday night, Jan. 16. In a lower scoring game with some unfriendly rims, the Bravettes used defensive pressure to create more offensive opportunities, which paid off in the end. Montezuma led 6-3 at the end of the first quarter and 14-13 at halftime. The Bravettes pushed on, using a 14-0 third quarter to spur a 37-22 victory. Kallie Robison led the Bravettes with 10 points while Madison Johannes added 9 and Kierstyn Price contributed 7. The win pushes the Bravettes to 12-0 on the season.
 
Bravettes JV bring home 30-7 victory at Tri-County
The Montezuma JV girls played a half of basketball against the Tri-County program in the Tuesday, Jan. 7, quad in Thornburg. Coming away with a 30-7 victory in the half of basketball, the Bravettes showed offensive efficiency and defensive aggressiveness. Madison Johannes led the way with 10 points and 7 steals, while Korrinn Kehoe, Rayna Hammen, and Kallie Robison all scored 6 points respectively. The Bravettes' record now stands at 11-0. 
 
Bravettes JV improve to 10-0 with 54-17 win second win over Sigourney
The Montezuma Bravettes JV team faced off against Sigourney for the second time this season on Monday night, Jan. 5, the start of three games in a busy week. The Bravettes defensive pressure got to the Lady Savages early, pushing Montezuma to a 11-0 lead at the end of the first quarter and a 23-6 lead at halftime. The Bravettes offense was able to get some patient looks, while also scoring several points in transition on the way to a 45-14 victory. Madison Johannes recorded a double-double in the game, scoring 11 points alongside her 10 steals. As a team, the Bravettes recorded 23 steals on the night. With the win, the Montezuma JV girls move to 10-0 on the season.
