Introducing the Friends of the Montezuma Public Library – Montezuma’s Newest Non-profit Organization7/31/2021 Submitted by Stacie Cameron
The Friends of the Montezuma Public Library, Montezuma’s newest non-profit organization created in March 2021 with the help of local attorney Angela Cook, of Watson Cook P.C., is pleased to introduce their board, their mission, and provide information on ways the community can provide support. Stacie Cameron, FMPL Board President, resides outside of Deep River with her husband Larry, her two sons – Brady and Cole, and her dog Willie. As an active volunteer within the community, she serves as the Board President of the Montezuma Community School District and Assistant Coach of the Montezuma Shooting Sports Club. She is an avid reader and her favorite authors are Agatha Christie, Janet Evanovich, Kristin Hannah, and J.K. Rowling. KayLynn Osborn, FMPL Board Vice President, lives with her husband, Eric, and their two dogs on a farm outside of Montezuma. She works for Unity Point as a physical therapist, providing care in Grinnell and Montezuma. She is an active member of the Montezuma Methodist Church, the Montezuma Country Club, and is the local Girl Scout troop leader. KayLynn’s favorite authors include Taylor Jenkins Reid, Harlan Coben, and Nicholas Sparks. Nichole Bushong, FMPL Board Secretary, resides just outside of Montezuma with her husband, Lucas, and daughter, Kaylee. Nichole is self-employed cleaning houses while Lucas farms with Four Aces Farms and raises cattle. She is also Vice President of Big Hearts 4 Tiny Hands, a non-profit that offers support to families while they have a baby in NICU, and she is part of the Montezuma PAC. Nichole loves to spend time boating at Lake Ponderosa and watching the Chicago Cubs. Jen Stowell, FMPL Board Treasurer, lives just outside Deep River with her husband, Dustin, her two daughters – Marley and Tinsley, and her dog, Louie. She is the Office Manager for Colewell Automation, located in Montezuma. Her daughters keep her busy with their many activities, including shooting sports, softball, basketball, dance, band, and 4-H. A lifelong, self-proclaimed book nerd, Jen reads all genres but historical fiction is her favorite! Bridget Miller, FMPL Board member, lives in Montezuma with her husband, Jeremy, and daughter, Lola. She works at County Bank and is a member of the United Methodist Church. Bridget enjoys walking, hiking and of course reading. Some of her favorite authors are Laurell K. Hamilton, David Baldacci, and Patricia Briggs. In the short time the Friends of the MPL have been organized, the board of directors has been working to fulfill their mission to provide support for the library’s programs and resources through volunteerism and philanthropy; promote community awareness of programs and resources and encourage a lifelong love of reading and learning. They have received monetary donations that have helped provide snacks for the library’s summer programs, helped provide prizes for the summer reading program, provided t-shirts for the children’s tie-dye event held in June, purchased books, and they’ve been able to purchase some children’s seating with grant monies they recently received.
