For Montezuma’s Brett Plants, wrestling is a family sport.
His dad, Mike, who is also his coach, wrestled for the Braves and made the trip to state wrestling 24 years ago at Montezuma.
As a junior, Plants is making his first trip to the Iowa High School Wrestling State Championship this week, Feb. 14 – 17, in Des Moines.
Plants, who has been wrestling since he was age three, holds a 34-8 regular season record in the 190 pound weight class.
When asked what he enjoys the most about the sport, Plants said having his brother on the team and having his dad as a coach.
“I’m very thankful and I want to enjoy the moment and take it all in,” he said.
“I’m pretty proud to see him accomplish the goal he set for himself to make it to state,” said his dad, Mike. “Like I did 24 years ago, I’m proud that he is representing Braves wrestling on the mat.”
In addition to wrestling, Plants plays football for the Braves.
