A Deep River family is thankful for the outpouring of love, food and clothing items following a fire that destroyed their home on Sunday, Feb. 13.
Susie Ferris Elliott and a teenage son, Chuck, were at their home at 113 Main St. in Deep River when the fire broke out shortly after 7 a.m.
A teenage daughter, Kailey, was not home at the time of the fire.
The fire is believed to be electrical in natural and the home is a total loss. The family is currently living in a Grinnell hotel.
“We have been completely taken aback by the outpouring of love from our community,” Susie said. “We are all truly blessed to live in a community that cares for one another when times like this happen.”
She said neighbors Zack Kirton and Katelin Shepard started a clothing drive following the fire and both have been a blessing along with many others in the community.
Susie said both Kailey and Chuck are doing well and Jeff, the family’s Golden Retriever, is also fine.
“Chuck did tell the fire inspector that he likes living in the hotel,” Susie said. “He likes the Continental breakfast and the bed is more comfortable.”
