Members of the Deep River American Legion Post 296 Junior Auxiliary Unit met recently and split into groups at the Legion Hall and made 100 Valentines’ Day cards for veterans at the Veterans Home in Marshalltown. The older members learned about officer roles and how to run a meeting following Roberts Rule of Order. The junior unit will hold its first officer election on Saturday, March 5 at 10 a.m.
Thanks to the efforts of 12 area young ladies, veterans at the Veterans Home in Marshalltown had a brighter Valentines’ Day.
Members of the Deep River American Legion Post 296 Junior Auxiliary Unit met recently and split into groups at the Legion Hall and made 100 Valentines’ Day cards for the veterans.
“They were very creative and as usual, Liz Roberts had lots of cool supplies for them to use,” said Jacki Bolen, junior auxiliary leader. “Learning to give is also an important part of our mission.”
In addition, Jacki began the process with the older girls of teaching them officer roles and how to run a meeting following Roberts Rule of Order. This is in preparation for their unit election to take place at the March 5 meeting at 10 a.m.
Ron Urfer of Montezuma, grandpa of two junior members and a veteran, joined the meeting as visitors are always welcome.
The Junior Auxiliary is for daughters, sisters, granddaughters and great-granddaughters of all men and women who were/are in the Armed Forces of the United States. The program, which started in November 2021, is geared for girls age infancy to 17-years-old. Members made and sold 75 Christmas bouquets to raise money to start an account.
