Deep River American Legion hosting pig roast for fire department renovations

The Deep River American Legion Morrison-Schrader Post 296 is hosting a free will offering pig roast on Saturday to raise funds for the Deep River Fire Department station renovation and expansion.
Bring your wallet and appetite and come to the Deep River Community Center to help the local volunteer fire department while enjoying good company and good food.
The event kicks off at 4 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 14. The meal, which comes complete with baked beans, salad, baked potatoes and roasted corn on the cob (if any is still available), will be served starting at 5:30 p.m.
The Legion grill will also be fired up with hot dogs and hamburgers to supplement the pig roast.
“A few years ago when Post 296 was needing a new home, Deep River and the surrounding communities, businesses, individuals and rural residents opened their pocketbooks to make that happen,” said Randy Johnson, Department of Iowa, District 5 Commander. “It’s time for us to pay it forward.”
The Deep River Fire Department is upgrading their nearly 50-year-old steel frame building, including adding a new roof, building sidewalls and insulation. Additionally, the revitalized facility will have a 30-foot x 41-foot addition allowing for new facilities and meeting rooms, while also providing a new truck bay.
All funds raised go directly to the Deep Fire Department. For additional details or to make a private donation, contact any Morrison-Schrader Post 296 member.
