Montezuma FFA earns three state championships

       The Montezuma FFA Chapter brought home three state championships at the 98th FFA State Leadership Conference held April 19-21 at Iowa State University in Ames.
      The Montezuma FFA Ag Sales Team of Peyton Tindle, Brady Bolton, Claire Erselius and Broox Stockman captured a state championship title at this year’s state FFA Convention. They also received a gold rating.
Peyton Tindle placed third individually and Broox Stockman finished in seventh place.
     FFA teams from 78 chapters participated in this year's CDE designed to provide the student an opportunity to display their agricultural knowledge and skills in the area of Agriculture Sales. The 307 individuals who participated in the event each completed an objective test, made a sales presentation, and performed a customer relations practicum. All team members worked together to prepare a marketing plan and make an oral presentation of the plan to the judges. 
Farm Business Management
       The Farm Business Management team of Vivian Cook, Easton Hudnut, Rett Pargeon and Gracie Wilson captured one of the three state titles for the Montezuma FFA Chapter. They also received a gold rating.
Cook was high individual overall in the career development event (CDE) competition. Pargeon was third, Wilson was fourth and Hudnut finished tenth overall.
        The Farm Business Management CDE is designed to provide the student an opportunity to display their agricultural knowledge and skills in the area of Farm Management. The 393 individuals who participated in the event each completed an objective test which had three sections: economic principles, records and analysis, and risk management. All team members worked together to solve a problem related to break even analysis. 
Ag Communications
        The Montezuma FFA Ag Communications CDE team captured a first place finish and state championship. Team members included Olivia Latcham, Abbi Henkle, Emma Snook, and Alexa Rose.
Montezuma was the top team in the general knowledge exam and team practicums. They also received a gold rating. 
     FFA members from 37 chapters participated in this year's CDE. The event provided students the opportunity to display their agricultural knowledge and skills in the area of agricultural communications. The 148 individuals who participated in the event completed several activities including demonstration of skills and problem solving in web design, video production, journalistic writing, and opinion writing, as well as presenting a team media plan.
Iowa FFA Ag Impact LDE
       The Montezuma Ag Impact LDE team finished in ninth place, earning a silver rating. The team was comprised of Abby Bos, Alyssa Bos, Ava DeWeese, Tait Henkle, Brayson Latcham and Annie Mathes.
           Ag Impact challenges Middle School FFA members to explore the importance of agriculture in our state, county and communities. This event is designed to engage middle school students in learning how the industry of agriculture affects their daily lives. Learning activities should focus on agricultural literacy, career exploration, personal development and integration of academics. 
Ag Conduct of Meetings
         The Montezuma FFA Ag Conduct of Meetings team finished in eighth place, earning a silver rating. Team members were Molly Jones, Jacob Meyer, Lily Moyer, Nolan Hudnut, Luke Benson, Brylee Latcham and Brooks Wilson.
         Teams participating in this CDE event were composed of seven members organized to act out the duties of an officer team. Teams were required to perform opening ceremonies, demonstrate two parliamentary procedure abilities, and successfully close a meeting. This event aids in the development of leadership abilities of young members for present and future chapter activities. Twelve chapters participated in the year’s LED.
Marketing Plan CDE
        Rylee Thompson, Leah Urfer and Hayden Sutherland finished in eighth place, earning a gold rating in the Marketing Plan CDE. They presented a proposal on the marketing of HTF Swine Genetics.
Iowa Degree recipients
        Montezuma had five students who earned their Iowa Degree. They are Lindsey Henry, Broox Stockman, Peyton Tindle, Brady Boulton and Luke Erselius. 
The three state championship teams qualified to represent Montezuma at the 99th National FFA Convention & Expo, Oct. 21-24, in Indianapolis.
