Heather Snook and Becki Williams with the Montezuma location of First State Bank presented a check in the amount of $2,207.10 to Montezuma Superintendent Rich Schulte at halftime of the Montezuma vs. Moravia homecoming football game on Friday. Sept. 19. The district received the check as part of the bank's Spirit Debit Card program.

First State Bank offers a debit card to customers who live in the school district were the bank has a location. Every time a bank customer uses their debit card, the bank receives a small percentage back as interchange income from fees charged by merchants. For the school spirit program, the bank turns around and donates 25 percent of that income back to the local schools located in the areas that they serve. The school determines where the money is spent in the district. You need to be a customer of First State Bank and have an active checking account to receive the spirit card. The customer does't get charged for a card as it's an option when opening the checking account. The bank offers a regular debit card and a school spirit card. It is a way for the community to show support for our local schools.
"First State Bank is very proud to support the future of our students along with our customers who are rooted in our community," noted a bank official.
