This fall, Imagine Grinnell is offering free trees to residents in Poweshiek County. The effort is part of Imagine Grinnell’s ongoing work to strengthen the local tree canopy, support environmental sustainability, and build a greener, healthier community.
Beginning August 4, residents in Poweshiek County were eligible to sign up for a free tree. The tree giveaway is part of Imagine Grinnell’s ongoing mission to enhance the local tree canopy, promote sustainability, and foster a healthier environment. Trees available this year include a diverse selection of shade trees, lower growing trees, and conifers. The varieties include: Fall Fiesta Sugar Maple, Autumn Brilliance Serviceberry, Eastern Redbud, Skyline Honeylocust, Chinkapin Oak, Autumn Gold Ginkgo, Princeton Elm, Espresso Kentucky Coffeetree, Hophornbeam, Wildfire Black Gum, Spring Snow Crabapple, White Pine, and Norway Spruce.
Plan for tree care, including consistent watering and mulching during the first few years to ensure healthy growth. Imagine Grinnell continues to lead efforts in replanting and sustaining the local urban forest. Community members who wish to support this initiative can make a donation at imaginegrinnell.org/support or by mailing a contribution to P.O. Box 284, Grinnell, IA 50112.
