Brooklyn's Walford receives 80-year Legion membership honor

      On June 13, Mayflower resident Stanley Walford, 100, formerly of Brooklyn and proud World War II Army Veteran, was honored as the Grand Marshal of the 2026 Brooklyn, Iowa, Flag Festival Parade.
    Following the parade, Stanley was recognized by the Brooklyn American Legion Francis Gallagher Post #294 for an extraordinary milestone—80 years of dedicated service to the American Legion and to his fellow veterans. This remarkable achievement reflects a lifetime of patriotism, leadership, and commitment to serving others.
    The members of Brooklyn American Legion Post #294 were proud to celebrate this special occasion and recognize a true hometown hero.
