Amiah Lint, a junior at BGM, recently qualified and wrestled at the 2026 IGHSU Girls’ State Wrestling Championships at the Xtream Arena in Coralville, Feb. 5-6.
Lint is the daughter of Shane and Kayla Lint and the granddaughter of BGM Principal Mary Sherwood and her husband, Shawn.
Lint was the only female wrestler in Poweshiek County to make the trip.
Lint was among 400 girls who qualified to wrestle at state.
Lint, who wrestles in the 120 weight class, won of two matches at state.
“Last year I was one place away from getting to state and this year I wrestled, but did not place,” said Lint.
Lint competes on a team with wrestlers from Montezuma and Belle Plaine.
When asked what she enjoys about wrestling, Lint said wrestling is an individual sport.
“It’s all me out there on the mat,” she said.
This being her first experience at state, Lint said it was a really good experience.
“It felt good to reach my goal of making it to state,” she said.
Lint said she had a lot of support at state from her family to lots of classmates.
“I really appreciate the support,” said Lint.
As for her senior campaign on the mat, Lint said she wants to work hard and return next year.
“I want to bring some of my teammates with me,” said Lint. “If you are interested in wrestling, give it a try. It is a good sport.
